Merano

Merano is an extraordinary city, which connects the delightful northern atmosphere, dictated by its culture and architecture,
and a Mediterranean ambience with a mild climate and a landscape full of vineyards and orchards.
And the principal town of Burgraviato with its districts of Quarazze, Maia Bassa, Maia Alta, Sinigo, Labers and the historical centre
is the second most inhabited centre in the region after Bolzano.

At Merano, surrounded by majestic mountains and with the Passirio river passing through, you can admire numerous attractions,
such as antique castles, buildings with diverse architectonical styles, historical gates, churches of esteemed artistic value,
promenades and parks, valued for its luxurious vegetation also consisting of exotic plants.

Until the beginning of the 19th century Merano was appreciated for its mild and salubrious climate which attracted countless holidaymakers, some of which chose it as a place to meet worldly people such as the bourgeoisie and Europe's noble. In the 20th century the thermal water was discovered and in 2005 the new thermal baths of Merano, which were realised on the southern bank of the Passirio River,
were inaugurated.
